HREA, in collaboration with VORMEN and DARE, will be organising a seminar on human rights education for civil servants.
They are found at town halls and government offices the world over, bringing the lofty to the least, by enacting the laws and regulations of their states through their work with ordinary citizenry. Civil servants are often not only official actors for their states, but the main connection many citizens have with their national governments. They come to represent all the government stands for, and their actions are extensions of the government as a whole. With the significant influence civil servants have over daily life comes significant responsibility to follow the basic premises of human rights.
Following calls for more specific training in human rights for particular fields, state governments worldwide have taken steps to educate their professional staff members on matters relating to human rights. These efforts have been manifested in various forms, from professional development sessions to extensive courses, covering a wide swath of human rights laws, state laws, and applications to civil service work. This seminar will highlight some good practices and special considerations when engaging in human rights education for civil servants.
