[women-rights] CEDAW 31st session: Individual Complaints

Dear Subscribers,

We are pleased to provide you herewith the thirty-second distribution of
treaty body recommendations through the listserve administered by the
Treaty Body Recommendations Unit of the Office of the High Commissioner for
Human Rights.

We attach, for your information, a decision on an individual complaint,
submitted under the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, adopted by the Committee on
the Elimination of Discrimination against Women at its thirty-first session
held from 6 to 23 July 2004 in New York.

Under article 8 of the Optional Protocol, the Committee has a mandate in
respect of reliable information indicating grave or systematic violations
by a State party of rights set forth in the Convention. The Committee's
Annual Report to the General Assembly (A/59/38) details, at paragraphs 393
to 408, the procedure followed by the Committee with respect to an inquiry
concerning allegations of the abduction, rape and murder of women in the
Ciudad Juárez area of Chihuahua, Mexico. The Committee will issue a summary
of its findings and recommendations and the Government's response at a
future date.


Further attached is the revised global Reporting Schedule setting out the
tentative consideration of State reports by treaty and session in 2004 and
2005. The schedule, correct as of 1 October 2004, is subject to change
without notice.
