ISSUES OF RACISM AND THE INTERNET AND GLOBALIZATION AND RACISM TO BE EXAMINED BY WORKING GROUP ON DURBAN DECLARATION xxxxxxxxxx 13 January 2006 The Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action will hold its fourth session from 16 to 27 January 2006 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Conference Room XXI. The Working Group will examine specifically the issue of racism and the Internet for two days on 16 and 17 January. The issue of complementary international standards in combating racism will be examined from 18 to 20 January. The second week of the session will focus on a thematic analysis of the issue of globalization and racism. The Working Group is one of the three mechanisms established to follow up the Declaration and Programme of Action of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, held in Durban, South Africa in 2001. The Intergovernmental Working Group was established by Commission on Human Rights resolution 2002/68 and approved by the Economic and Social Council in its decision 2002/270 of 25 July 2002. Since its first session in 2003, the Working Group has organized its work on a thematic basis by analyzing different issues identified in the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action as related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
