[WCAR] Information Note 13

       The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights presents its
compliments to non-governmental organizations and indigenous organizations
and has the honour to inform them that as part of the follow up to the
World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and
Related Intolerance, which took place in Durban, South Africa from 31
August to 8 September 2001, a regional expert seminar, with the support of
the regional office of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the
Carribean, will take place in Mexico City from 1 to 3 July 2002. The
subject of the seminar will be: "Implementation of the Durban Programme of
Action: An exchange of ideas on how to move forward".

       Twelve experts have been requested to prepare papers on different
themes of the seminar and to lead the debates.

       Representatives of the governments of Latin America and the Carribean
and other member States of the United Nations, as well as representatives
of  intergovernmental organizations, United Nations bodies and specialized
agencies, national human rights institutions, non-governmental
organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council
as well as those which have been accredited for the World Conference
against Racism and indigenous organizations accredited pursuant to Economic
and Social Council resolution 1995/32 are invited to participate in the
seminar as observers.

       The seminar will be conducted in English and Spanish and
interpretation will be available in those languages.

       The report of the seminar will contain conclusions and recommendations
that will be submitted to the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on
Human Rights.

       The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights would be grateful
if your organization could communicate the names of the representatives of
his or her government who will attend the seminar, and submit the attached
registration form by 20 June 2002. The provisional agenda and an
information note concerning the seminar are also attached.

La Oficina del Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos saluda muy
atentamente a las organizaciones no gubernamentales y las organizaciones
indígenas, y tiene el honor de informarle que como parte del seguimiento a
la Conferencia Mundial contra el racismo, la discriminación racial, la
xenofobia y otras formas conexas de intolerancia, que se celebró en Durban,
Sudáfrica del 31 de agosto al 8 de septiembre de 2001, la Oficina del Alto
Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos está organizando un seminario
regional de expertos, que se realizará en la Ciudad de México, del 1 al 3
de julio del año en curso. El seminario tendrá como tema principal de
discusión el "Cumplimiento del Programa de Acción adoptado en Durban:
Intercambio de ideas para una acción futura."

       Los debates serán dirigidos por un grupo de 12 expertos invitados, que
presentarán documentos sobre diversos aspectos de los temas a tratarse.

       Están invitados a enviar representantes para participar en el
seminario en calidad de observadores los gobiernos de América Latina y el
Caribe y otros Estados Miembros de las Naciones Unidas, las organizaciones
intergubernamentales, los órganos y organismos especializados de las
Naciones Unidas, las instituciones nacionales de derechos humanos, las
organizaciones no gubernamentales con estatus consultivo con el Consejo
Económico y Social, las organizaciones no gubernamentales especialmente
acreditadas para asistir a la Conferencia Mundial contra el racismo, la
discriminación racial, la xenofobia y las formas conexas de intolerancia y
las organizaciones indígenas acreditadas según la resolución 1995/32 del
Consejo Económico y Social .

       Los idiomas de trabajo del seminario serán el inglés y el español; se
facilitará interpretación en ambos idiomas.
       Se adjuntan a la presente nota el programa provisional y una nota
informativa con respecto al seminario.

       La Oficina del Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos agradecería
que su organización le comunicara, a más tardar el 20 de junio de 2002, los
nombres de sus representantes que asistirán al seminario y nos enviara el
formulario de inscripción adjunto.
