PJSA - The Peace and Justice Studies Association
2004 Annual Conference
At the University of San Francisco
The Challenge of Globalization:
Incorporating Peace, Justice,
And Human Rights
October 14-17, 2004
San Francisco, CA USA
The Peace and Justice Studies Association Annual Conference, hosted
by the University of San Francisco, will consider the following:
Resistance to globalization
has led its defenders to speak of globalization with a human face.
Is this a genuine effort to resolve the inequalities and injustices that
have accompanied the globalization phenomenon, or an effort to deflect
criticism and protest? What would it take to globalize peace, justice
and human rights?
Jonathan Schell, The Nation's peace and disarmament correspondent,
the Harold WillensPeace Fellow at the Nation Institute, most
recently the author of A Hole in the World (compilation of his
Letter from Ground Zerocolumns), will be a featured speaker.
Schell is also author of The Unconquerable World.
Plenary panels will explore globalization from African and Latin
American perspectives, in addition to the topics of nonviolence and
globalism.
In addition, the conference will include sessions on international
conflicts, popular movements for justice and peace, conflict resolution,
reports from activist organizations, discussions of pedagogical issues,
and other topics.
