BRIEFING TO CONGRESS ON UN DISABILITY CONVENTION
Disability Community Encouraged to Attend
The U.S. Congressional Human Rights Caucus will hold a briefing on Tuesday,
March 30th from 10:00am-11:30am on the UN Convention on the Rights of People
with Disabilities. The briefing will be chaired by Congressman Tom Lantos,
co-Chair of the Caucus and Ranking Democrat on the International Relations
Committee. Congressmen Jim Langevin and Ramstead from the Disability Caucus
are also expected to participate.
Confirmed panelists include:
* Ambassador Luis Gallegos, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to
the United Nations and Chair of the UN Ad Hoc Committee drafting the
convention;
* The Honorable Richard Thornburgh, Former U.S. Attorney General and
Vice Chairman, World Committee on Disability;
* Alan Reich, President, National Organization on Disability and
Chairman, World Committee on Disability;
* Kathy Martinez, Board Member, National Council on Disability.
Also invited are Christopher Reeve, Vice Chairman of the National
Organization on Disability, and officials from the U.S. Department of State
and Department of Justice.
This is open to the general public. The disability community is encouraged
to attend to show our interest and support for the convention.
As the room has not yet been determined, please visit the Caucus website

location on Capitol Hill.
Sign language interpretation will be provided.
