Dear Colleagues, This informative and topical conference, 'The Challenge of Conflict, International Law Responds,' will bring together academics, lawyers, judges, activists and researchers to meet, interact with and consider the catastrophic consequences of deadly armed conflict. It is designed to facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue on one of the major dilemmas currently facing the international community. The conference should appeal to practitioners of law, international relations, politics, peace and conflict studies, defence and strategic studies and community activists. The conference is being hosted by the Flinders University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. It will take place from 26-29 February 2004. Plenary speakers include: The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer, MP, Prof. Kevin Clements, Prof Andrew Goldsmith, His Excellency Sukehiro Hasegawa (Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for East Timor), Prof Hilary Charlesworth, Justice Louise Arbour, Prof Gillian Triggs, Sir Ninian Stephen, and Wing Commander Ian Henderson.
