October 10, 2003, World Day Against the Death Penalty : The Coalition calls 
for local actions

The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty announced the World Day 
against the Death Penalty. Held every October 10th, this event will 
reinforce and strengthen the international movement for the universal 
abolition of the death penalty.

The World Coalition calls on NGOs, teachers, lawyers and judges, local 
representatives and deputies, religious organisations, artists, 
journalists, and citizens, to prepare local initiatives for the 10th of 
October 2003.

The Coalition hopes to have debates, round tables, lectures, concerts, 
demonstrations, and declarations to raise public awareness and promote 
change for the entire world.

As part of their global actions for October 10, 2003, the World Coalition 
will create a internet demonstration for all countries that still practice 
the Death Penalty demanding the immediate end to all executions and the 
abolition of the death penalty for all crimes.

The Coalition is committed to linking local actions with the international 
movement. The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty brings together 24
organisations and was created in Rome on 12 May 2002.
