Women's Electronic Training goes national in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines -- The first national pilot Women's Electronic
Network Training (WENT) workshop successfully trained 20 Filipino
women from a wide mix of organisations including women's
organisations, cooperatives, trade unions, alternative media groups,
gender advocates from mixed-gender organisations.

WENT-Philippines is an offshoot of the Asia-Pacific WENT training
series, now in its fourth year. WENT has trained 91 women from 18
countries in the Asia Pacific since 1999. APC Women's Networking
Support Programme (WNSP) co-coordinates the WENT training on behalf
of the Asian Women's Resource Exchange.

The Philippine WENT was held over three days in April at the National
Computer Center (NCC), the lead agency in the Philippine government's
computerization program. NCC donated its facilities for the training
as part of its outreach program to NGOs. The WENT course is a mixture
of lectures, presentations and demonstrations with an emphasis on
hands-on practical experience, collaborative learning and group work.

At WENT, participants are trained in the use of group communication
and web authoring tools to be able to provide meaningful
Internet-related activities for their organizations, networks and
localities. Out of this, WENT aims to develop and increase the level
of cooperation among women's information providers and existing
women's information networks in the region.

The trainers for WENT-Philippines are members of APC WNSP. Trainers
at WENT-Philippines were:

1) Justina Curtis - Community Communications Online/Toy Satellite

member in Australia, c2o works with grassroots communities, artist
collectives and indigenous groups in Australia and Malaysia in
developing their content for online publishing and broadcasting.

2000. She is a graduate of WENT'99. Nani is a independent media and
