Kosovo: Multi-ethnic radio launches Roma and Ashkali programming

PRISTINA, 28 May 2002 - Radio "K" began broadcasting in Roma and
Ashkali to the communities of Fushė Kosovė / Kosovo Polje and
the surrounding region yesterday.

The new programmes, which are an addition to broadcasts provided in the
Albanian and Serbian languages since the opening of the station in
September 2001, serve as an important tool in addressing community concerns
on issues of importance to each specific group.

The new broadcasts were launched by Adem Demaci, a well-known advocate for
ethnic tolerance, and the new Spokesperson of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo,
Poul Smidt.

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo has always promoted multi-ethnic broadcasting.
It applauds the continual work of stations in bringing important
information to all communities in the province.
