Orginally posted on the <human-rights-news> listserv. ------- Amnesty International (AI) needs a skilled IT Officer to help develop and support our communications network based on Internet connectivity, Windows NT and Lotus Notes email and databases. Based in our Africa Regional Office, you will be involved in the day-to-day support of the office's IT systems, working with other telecommunication staff in the London office; as well as supporting IT systems and users in other offices in Paris, Dakar and Pretoria. Travel will be required to these and other locations in West, East and Southern Africa, where you will have to set up and maintain PCs, laptops, office applications and NT servers and workstations. You will have experience of building and maintaining these systems and the ability to teach AI staff, volunteers and other human rights defenders in the use of these systems. Our plans for the coming year include implementing further Lotus Notes servers, security measures including encryption and firewalls, leased line Internet connectivity in offices around the world, and taking forward our electronic campaigning, including web publishing, discussion networks, databases and other multilingual electronic information dissemination. You will be able to take responsibility for projects like these in some challenging IT environments. Excellent English is essential and you will be expected to teach IT skills in French within 6 months. Knowledge of an African language will be an advantage. Having worked in IT in Africa will be highly advantageous.
