These are amongst the numerous ways by which the Internet increasingly invades the political life of contemporary democracies. It is becoming ever more important for social scientists to understand how this new communication technology will affect politics in the twenty-first century. Particularly, in the light of the market struggles for control over the new medium, it becomes important to reflect upon its role as a public good. This conference is an experiment with new forms of organizing intellectual debates over the Internet, using computer-mediated communication to discuss the theme of the event. In order to participate or attend to the conference, one needs only to have access to a computer connected to the Internet. During the month of November, all accepted papers and critical commentaries will be available at the conferenceĆs website and will be discussed by the participants and those attending to the conference. Proposals (title, abstract, author and affiliation) should be sent by e-mail to conference@cevep.ufmg.br. Proposals may be submitted in English, French, German or Spanish. ---------------------------------- Send mail for the 'huridocs-tech' list to 'huridocs-tech@hrea.org'.
