The arrests and charges of violating the Official Secrets Act mark a crackdown on material from the anti-regime Web site BurmaNet, widely accessible in Rangoon, according to the Oslo-based radio station Democratic Voice of Burma. A senior government official confirmed to The Australian yesterday that Colonel Khin Maung Lwin, a War Office computer expert, had been disciplined for breaching the military's code of conduct. The official denied there had been any Official Secrets Act detentions and said Democratic Voice of Burma was "quite notoriously known for disseminating unconfirmed or unchecked information". DVB had reported that Colonel Khin Maung Lwin was arrested earlier this month and was under interrogation. It said five more people, instructors at two Rangoon computer training schools, were also detained under the Official Secrets Act. Classes at the schools had been shut down, Asiaweek reported. ---------------------------------- Send mail for the 'huridocs-tech' list to 'huridocs-tech@hrea.org'.
