My name is Marlem DIAZ and I am working at the Open Forum of
Cambodia, a registered Cambodian NGO, concerned with
communication to build a stronger civil society. - Our main
regular operations are an e-mail system (the first in
Cambodia, since 1994) which has around 700 users in the
country, the majority with NGOs, UN agencies, or government
background, and, of course, also other users. We are a
low-cost system aiming at making e-mail and information on
the internet available to the Cambodian public.

We have a number of local newsgroups set up, some of them
with locally created content, others transforming regularly
incoming international mailing lists into local newsgroups -
for example a UN/Bangkok based South-East Asia Aids mailing
list, or the Pesticide Action Network etc.

And secondly, we publish two weekly press digests: The
Mirror (translations from the Khmer language press of all
political persuasions - quite a different world from the
local English papers) into English, and the same in Khmer
(especially for readers in the provinces, as there are
hardly any of the Phnom Penh based newspaper reaching beyond
the capital city. We can send you a copy for your
information in the Adobe Acrobat Reader format, if you are
interested.

* Policies, strategies, tools, and partnerships to improve
access to and use of information resources by the poor in
rural and urban areas alike, is just one of our near-future
goals.

Sincerely,

Marlem DĦaz
Office Manager
