POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: DESIGN TEAM CONSULTANTS

GLOBAL YOUTH CONNECT (GYC) is a global organization, led by and for
young people, which supports and encourages youth activism, community
building, reconciliation and non-violence. Our goals are to build a
support a community of frontline young activists from around the world,
and to inspire a new generation of young people to work for human rights
and social transformation. GYC was created by a steering committee of
young people from around the world, and is led by a board of directors
made up entirely of youth.

GYC is putting together a Design Team to develop curriculum materials
and a training program for a Human Rights Learning Community to take
place in April 2000. Design team members may also serve as primary
facilitators for the two-week Learning Community. The Human Rights
Learning Community is a unique educational opportunity that will provide
much needed training and support to both established youth activists and
to a new generation of activists.

We are presently searching for 2-3 individuals to serve on the GYC
Design Team. This is a part-time consultant position. We estimate that
total involvement will be approximately 20-25 days over a period of 6
months. We are looking for individuals who can be involved in this
process as soon as possible.

Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have excellent written and
oral communication skills; experience and/or interest in social justice,
human rights, international development, conflict resolution, mediation,
intercultural understanding, curriculum development, workshop
facilitation and/or education; be familiar with and open to innovative
teaching pedagogies; familiarity with non-profits is helpful; ability to
attend meetings during weekend hours; and a sense of humor is
invaluable. We are looking especially for high school, college students,
graduate students and/or recent graduates.

Responsibilities Include:

     a.. Attending and participating in monthly Design Team meetings;

     b.. Reviewing, revising and developing curriculum and training
materials for the Human Rights Learning Community;

     c.. Working with GYC staff and the Design Team to design a training
agenda and structure;

     d.. Serving as a primary facilitator at the April 2000 Learning
Community, if appropriate; and

     e.. Working with the program evaluators to assess the success of the
curriculum and Learning Community training model.


Salary: Consultants will be paid on an hourly basis for hours worked.
Salary range is between $20-25 per hour, based on experience.
