COMPUTER NETWORK ASSISTANT (20 hours/week)
(WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE)
Since its founding in 1978, Human Rights Watch has become
the largest U.S.-based international human rights monitoring
and advocacy organization, known for its in-depth
investigations, its incisive and timely reporting, its
innovative and high-profile advocacy campaigns, and its
success in changing the human rights-related policies of the
U.S. and other influential governments.
DESCRIPTION: The Network Assistant is responsible for
providing software, help desk, and light hardware support to
approximately 40 staff members in our Washington, D.C.
office. Under the supervision of the New York-based Systems
Manager, the Network Assistant will offer basic and advanced
software training for all staff, on-the-spot troubleshooting
of software, PC, or network connection problems, and basic
network maintenance (Human Rights Watch uses WordPerfect,
Word, FileMaker Pro, Excel, and numerous other programs, all
within a Windows NT environment). This is a half-time
position of 20 hours per week, to include scheduled time on
each work day from Monday through Friday.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be skilled in office
software and experienced with the Internet. Experience with
teaching or helping people will be considered a plus. A
basic familiarity with computer hardware, such as hard
drives, printers, etc., is required. The ideal candidate
enjoys exploring software applications, solving problems,
and envisioning ways that existing systems may be put to
better use. Also, an interest in international affairs and
human rights would be useful.
SALARY: The Network Assistant will earn $12.00 per hour, 20
hours per week.
