Invitation to Meeting on WSF 2006 Southeast/East Asia Forum

Dear Friends,

Warm greetings!

The World Social Forum in 2006 will be organized as a Polycentric Forum
-- an event that will take place in various parts of the world rather
than in one location.

An Asian Assembly on WSF 2006 was held last June to plan for the Asia
process. The Assembly adopted a resolution to hold two (2) WSF 2006
Polycentric Forums in Asia: one to be held in January 2006 in Karachi,
Pakistan and another to be held in Southeast/East Asia sometime May to
July  2006.   (see copy of Asia Assembly Declaration is attached;
Resolution on two Asia polycentric forums in towards the end of the
document).

The latter was a proposal from the caucus of Southeast and East Asian
groups who attended the Asian Assembly. The caucus also agreed to hold
a meeting again on August 16, 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand to start the
planning and preparatory process for the Polycentric Forum that will be
held in Southeast/East Asia. All social movements, organizations and
NGOs from the region who wish to be part of this process are invited to
attend. Among the first decisions to be made is venue (country) and
date.

The meeting was scheduled on August 16 because Jubilee South
Asia/Pacific Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) is organizing a
series of activities around that time, which will gather a significant
number of organizations and movements from the region. We have agreed
to host and arrange facilities for this meeting.

The venue is will be at Bangkok Palace Hotel located at City Square
1091/336, New Petchburi Road, Bangkok 10400, Thailand. Tel (662) 253
0510. (Please see attached map). Meeting will be from 2:00 p.m. until
late evening.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer to help with travel costs. We can cover
food and one night stay at the hotel for those attending the August 16
meeting.

We are also inviting you to attend the Conference on Development and Aid
as well as the Seminar on GATS which will take place on August 17 to 19
at the same venue. Registration fee is US $ 100. The draft program of
these activities are also attached.

Please do inform us as soon as possible if you are interested to join
these meetings. You can write to the JS- APMDD secretariat c/o Liza
Clavecilla, liza@jubileesouth.org.

Salamat!
