Sixth anniversary Global HRE List!

Dear List members,

Happy Anniversary to us! This week the Global Human Rights Education
listserv is six years old. What began as a listserv of only a few hundred
members has grown to one with almost 3,500 subscribers from over 150
countries. We operate because of your enthusiastic involvement and
support. On the occasion of this anniversary, we are asking you to show
your additional support by making a donation for the continued operation
of the listserv.

Since 1999, this listserv has been essential for helping us to pass along
information about new publications, upcoming trainings and networking
opportunities. We have engaged each other in provocative conversations,
about topics such as HRE and neutrality, transformative learning, and
whether or not HRE makes a difference. We hear that you feel supported
simply by reading of the important work we are all doing. You have told
HREA that this listserv is meaningful to you, and we are grateful to know
this.

Please show your additional support by making a donation, if you are able,
through a check, credit card or electronic transfer. Checks can be sent to
the U.S. office of HREA (Human Rights Education Associates) at P.O. Box
382396, Cambridge, MA 02238-2396, USA. (For residents of the Netherlands
and the USA this donation is tax deductible.) On-line donations via credit
card are also possible at:
http://www.hrea.org/lists/hr-education/index.html

All amounts are welcome and appreciated!

We would like to make you remind you that last year the Global
Consultation on the World Programme for Human Rights Education provided
major input to the development of the Plan of Action of the current World
Programme for Human Rights Education. It was also the first time that this
policy discussion was held simultaneously in Arabic, English, French,
Portuguese, Russian and Spanish on the Global and the six regional
listservs, moderated by our colleagues in Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Egypt,
Russian Federation, Thailand and the USA. In a few weeks HREA and its
partners ARRC (Thailand), the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies,
IIDH (Costa Rica) and UIDH (Burkina Faso) will again organise an on-line
forum. Within the next months we will also announce the creation of The
Global Human Rights Education Network, a formalisation of the current
networking efforts.

We have together developed a genuine community of learners and educators
and we feel humbled by the talent and dedication of the members of this
Global HRE Network. On behalf of the HREA staff, I would like to
personally thank you for the ideas, questions and experiences that you
share on the Global HRE List and the regional HRE listservs. I learn
something new from you every day. Here's to the continuation of our
on-line community!

Warm regards,

Felisa Tibbitts
Director, HREA
