Dear Friends, Greetings of peace !! The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) is now accepting applications for the 2004 ASIA (Asian Studies in Asia) Fellows Awards (AFA). AFA is an Asia-wide fellowship program that aims to create a multinational network of Asian specialists on Asia. It offers young scholars and mid-career professionals opportunities to conduct research in any field of Asian studies including the arts, culture, humanities and social sciences. The research project can be undertaken for a period of six to nine months in any of the participating countries in the region. These include South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Republic Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; Southeast Asian countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam; and the People's Republic of China. Applications of AFA must not be more than 45 years old. They must also have a master's or doctorate degree, be proficient in English or in the language of the host country, and have a minimum of three years of university teaching experience for scholars, or five years of work experience for professionals. Successful applicants are provided allowances for international travel, local travel, monthly living expenses, language study, and research. AFA is being administered in the Philippines by the Philippine Social Science Council, a private, non-profit organization of professional social science associations, in partnership with the Bangkok-based Asian Scholarship Foundation.
