New Deputy Secretary-General Appointed at the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ)



The ICJ is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ernst Lueber as Deputy
Secretary-General of the ICJ. Recruited in December 2002, Mr Lueber
commenced his duties this month.

As Deputy Secretary-General, Mr Lueber has responsibility for the daily
running of the Secretariat and works with the Secretary-General on a full
range of governance, monitoring and policy issues. Mr Lueber brings with him
solid professional experience in international cooperation and project
management combined with a strong knowledge of international affairs and
law.

Prior to joining the ICJ, he was coordinating humanitarian assistance and
development cooperation activities in a wide range of countries for the
Swiss Red Cross and before that for Doctors without Borders. From 1991 to
1994, Mr Lueber was programme officer for the International Labour
Organisation (ILO) with postings in Pakistan and in Nepal. A Swiss and
French national, Mr Lueber received his degree in international relations
from the Graduate Institute of International Studies and the University of
Geneva in 1986 and holds an MA (development economics) from the University
of Sussex (U.K.).
