You are invited to attend the first GAJE Australasia Regional Conference
being held at the University of Sydney, 9th to 11th of December, 2002. The
Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE) brings together legal
academics, law students, jurists, community workers, advocates and legal
practitioners from around the world with the common goal of achieving
justice through legal education.This regional conference is being organised
by members of GAJE Australasia, in partnership with Kingsford Legal Centre,
staff and students at the Law Faculties of the University of Sydney and
University of New South Wales, and the Jumbunna Indigenous House of
Learning, University of Technology, Sydney.


CONFERENCE PROGRAM

The three conference streams will focus on:
- Asylum seekers and refugees;
- HIV/AIDS and access to justice in developing countries;
- Indigenous justice.
The conference will enable legal academics, law students, legal
practitioners, community groups and advocates from the Asia-Pacific region
to share their ideas, policies and experiences and establish a basis for
future collaboration and co-operation.

REGISTRATION AND SCHOLARSHIPS

The registration fee for the three day conference includes all lunches,
morning and afternoon teas and the conference social program, including the
conference dinner and closing function.

Standard (including academic and government): $275
Non Government or Community Organisation: $165
Student or unwaged: $110
All fees are in Australian Dollars and are Goods and Services Tax (GST)
inclusive. Day rates are also available.

A limited number of scholarships will be available to cover the
registration fees (full or part fee) for selected participants wanting to
attend the Conference. Priority will be given to delegates from the
Asia-Pacific Region. Participants who would like to apply for a scholarship
should contact the Conference Administrator, Edwina Kobus (details below)
to obtain an application form.


VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

The Conference will be held at the Eastern Avenue Complex, Camperdown
Campus, University of Sydney. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Accommodation for conference participants is available at St Andrew's
College, University of Sydney (a short walk from the conference venue).
Rates per night are $50 (single room, with continental breakfast) and $65
(double room with continental breakfast).
