Kosovo Judicial Institute organizes seminar on organized crime

PRISTINA, 2 October 2002 – Members of Kosovo's judiciary have been invited
by the Kosovo Judicial Institute (KJI) to attend a special one-day seminar
to discuss the challenge of combating organized crime.

The participants at the event will include judges and prosecutors of the
Supreme Court, the Office of the Chief Prosecutor and the different
District and Municipal Courts of Kosovo.

Local and international experts will provide the audience with
presentations on the forms and characteristics taken by organized crime in
Kosovo, and on the possible measures for detection and prosecution to track
it down. In addition, participants will discuss the United Nations Mission
in Kosovo Regulation 2001/22 on Measures Against Organized Crime and the
means of its implementation.

The KJI was set up by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo as part of its
institution-building mandate. The Institute provides legal education for
judges and prosecutors, thus playing an important role in strengthening the
judiciary and the rule of law in Kosovo.

Representatives of the media are welcome to attend the seminar, which will
take place from 9.15 to 16.00 on 3 October in the premises of the Kosovo
Judicial Institute, Ramiz Sadiku Street, Pristina.
