KOSOVO JUDICIAL INSTITUTE HOSTS SEMINAR ON NARCOTICS

PRISTINA, 29 May 2002 – The Kosovo Judicial Institute (KJI) will hold a
one-day training session on the prosecution of narcotic trafficking cases.
Local and international judges and prosecutors have been invited to attend
to discuss how to identify legal and factual bases for successful prosecution.

The aim of the training session is to improve knowledge of ways the
narcotics are distributed and to use this information for a successful
prosecution. After a presentation of the provisions of current applicable
law related to combating drug trafficking, the participants will be briefed
by an expert of the United Nations Civilian Police. The expert will discuss
the type of narcotics being seized in the region, as well as the amounts
commonly sold, the methods of packaging, the process of distribution and
the accessories commonly associated with the use of narcotics.

In addition, participants will discuss a prosecution case, and the use of
an expert in the investigation and detection of narcotic related offences.

The OSCE, which established the KJI as an institution dedicated to training
judges and prosecutors, has played and continues to play a major role in
re-establishing a judicial system based on democratic principles and human
rights standards.

Representatives of the media are invited to observe the opening remarks of
the seminar which will be held on 30 May between 9:00 to 9:30 at the Kosovo
Judicial Institute, Ramiz Sadiku Street, Prishtinë/Priština.
