Re: First phase of the World Programme for HRE

Following the discussion on the UN HRE programme really gives great joy
knowing that even when our governments and people in authority fail to act
in promoting HRE especially in the primary schools, the comments and
initiatives of members of the list serv gives the deepest conviction that
there is a ligh at the end of the tunnel.

For me, accelerating the promotion and understanding of HRE in the primary
school is a priority because at that stage is where you have the
individuals who would lead the future and the proper understanding of the
concept of human rights will help mold a future of the respect and
protection of human rights.

In Nigeria, the government has commenced series of reform but am yet to
see the reform on specific intervention in promoting HRE in schools. I
will welcome initiatives on how to accelerate the promotion of the HRE and
how we can promote strategic cooperation between the government and civil
society in the promotion of HRE in primary and secondary school.
