[hr-education] Re: First phase of the World Programme for HRE

Dear friends, 

Human rights education is a long term process and a lot needs to be done
with this regard.

We are an Egyptian NGO that has a program for human rights education for
school children, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. We work
in 90 schools in Cairo, El-Menya, Fayoum, Bany Swaif and Kalyoubia
governorates. We target public school children from 11-17 years of age,
boys & girls equally. We also target school teachers, produce training
material for children and teachers, and target parental councils and the
school administration.

The activities of our program are:

1. Produce material for human rights education: notebooks & posters. 

2. Training of school teachers, on human rights, and help them develop
tools and activities to be conducted through schools.

3. Summer camps for school children -- to educate them more deeply on
human rights, and to facilitate their exchange of information and
expereince on different activities on human rights through the established
Human Rights clubs.

4. Competition between Human Rights clubs for best practices, aiming to
encouraging human rights as a way of living and not only as information to
be well known!!

5. Support to Human Rights clubs with libraries and material for its
activities.

6. Meetings with school adminstration and parental council to involve them
in the process and provoke them to support it.

Our program was initiated on 2004 in 20 schools, and now its in 90 schools
as mentioned above. We also have conducted a conference to set a national
plan to implement the World Program, which was attended by NGOs, Ministry
of Education, teachers and experts in addition to participants from other
Arab countries -- Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen, Lebanon and Palestine. Also we
are in the process of establishing a national Taskforce to follow up this
process, and a regional one to activate implementing the World Programme
in the Arab region.
