5 February 2007

Vernor Muņoz, Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights
Council on the right to education, will visit Malaysia at the invitation
of the Government from 5 to 14 February 2007.

During this visit, the Special Rapporteur will consider how Malaysia

the school system and the situation of higher education.

The Special Rapporteur will meet with Government officials and with civil
society representatives, including non-governmental organizations,
education professionals, academics, students, parents and members of the
media. The Special Rapporteur will also have the opportunity to visit
schools. He will be travelling to the cities of Kuala Lumpur, Kota Baru,
Kuching and their suburbs.

The Special Rapporteur will present a report on his mission to Malaysia to
the Council on Human Rights in 2008.
