Dear colleagues, Facing History and Ourselves is once again proud to offer an online course for educators from all over the world. The course, "Facing History and Ourselves: Holocaust and Human Behavior," runs from 22 March, 2007 - 16 May, 2007 and will explore Facing History's content, methodology, and unique approach to teaching history. The eight-week course requires a commitment of approximately four hours of work per week. There are no "live" events, so course participants find the time to do the weekly assignments and participate in the online discussions at their convenience. Due to a generous grant from the Skirball Foundation, this course is free to educators. *** TO APPLY ONLINE, GO TO: http://www.facinghistory.org/OnlineCourseINTL *** As a community of educators from around the world, we can learn about what civil society needs from its citizens in order to thrive. In our online course, through readings, video clips, interactive exercises, and online discussion, participants will examine Facing History's "scope and sequence" by connecting history to the moral questions inherent in a study not only of violence, racism, and antisemitism but also of courage, caring, and compassion. Throughout Facing History and Ourselves' online course, participants will work with Facing History resources and will be encouraged to make connections to their own society and recognize universal themes. What can we learn about democracy from the violent history of a failed democracy? About tolerance from horrific examples of neighbor turning against neighbor? About moral courage from a society that stressed blind obedience? *** FOR MORE INFORMATION, AND TO APPLY ONLINE, GO TO: http://www.facinghistory.org/OnlineCourseINTL *** ____________________________________________________ "The course...reinforced my belief that teaching, guiding, exposing and encouraging the coming generations is so important if we are to see a changed world.
