University for Peace Institute (San José, 8-26 January 2007)



Dear Colleague: 

The University for Peace (UPEACE), a United Nations Mandated University
located in Costa Rica, is pleased to announce its second annual UPEACE
INSTITUTE. The INSTITUTE consists of three-week short courses that will be
given in different areas such as Media and Peace, Leadership, Culture,
Politics, Conflict and Peace, War and film, Gender, Environment, Law,
Development, among others.

The following is the course listing: 

* Hunger, Famine and Food Security 
* Thinking the World, Changing the World: The Public-Private Distinction 
in Social, Legal, and Political Thought 
* Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector: Making it Happen 
* Democracia y Desarrollo en América Latina: Temas Contemporáneos
* War and Film 
* Multiculturalism, Gender, and Migration 
* Media Dilemmas for UN Peacekeeping Operations 
* Theatre and Peace Building 
* Nonprofit Leadership: Maximizing your Impact 

All of the courses will be taught by international academicians and
professionals with extensive expertise in each of these areas. Courses
will run from January 8, 2007 to January 26, 2007.

The UPEACE INSTITUTE presents a great opportunity to engage UPEACE
students and professionals with practitioners, academicians and students
of peace and conflict from allover the world, in interactive participatory
classes and informal gatherings which will bring several cultures and
views together.

The UPEACE INSTITUTE will be offered for graduate credit, and for training
purposes. This year we also offer one course in Spanish.
