Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 11:20 GMT June 13, Colombo: With the aim of giving human rights education from childhood to create a moral and righteous society, human rights will be introduced to the school curriculum as a subject from school level to higher education in Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights will collaborate with the Ministry of Education on this effort, says Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights. His Ministry will also assist the Ministry of Education in the implementation of the government’s decision to teach Sinhala and Tamil languages as compulsory subjects from the primary level. The Ministry believes this step would be a good solution to build up good relationships and reduce conflicts among different communities.
