The Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is a major international
postgraduate center specializing in higher education and research in
development studies, based in The Hague, The Netherlands. Its postgraduate
teaching programs are conducted in English, at Diploma, MA and PhD levels.

ISS seeks to recruit a
(Senior) Lecturer in Development, Human Rights and Governance

for a fixed period of three years. In future, (an)other position(s) might
be created in this field.

Located in the multidisciplinary academic staff group on ‘States,
Societies, World Development’, the selected candidate will teach in the MA
specialization in Human Rights, Development and Social Justice, as well as
contribute to related specializations and activities in the staff group.

Tasks and Responsibilities include teaching, research, and public service
including (external) project work. The appointee must have broad knowledge
of development studies and expertise in at least one of the following
areas: political and civil rights; economic and social and cultural
rights; governance and human rights; rights-based approaches and
methodologies; and human rights law, preferably with an emphasis on
national law and institutions, or regional human rights mechanisms.

Requirements:
* PhD, preferably in human rights law or political science
* Quality publications
* Proven previous experience in teaching at (post)graduate level
* Capacity for and interest in contributing to interdisciplinary
teaching and research within an institute of development and comparative
social studies
* Willingness to travel and work abroad in connection with ISS
capacity development and other projects
* Experience in comparative enquiry in at least one of the following
regions would be an advantage: Africa, Asia, Latin America or the
Caribbean.

Candidates who originate from developing countries (especially
Africa) are especially encouraged to apply.

Employment conditions are comparable to those at Dutch Universities, ISS
follows the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities. Salary
is dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with scale 11
of the university salary scales. Maximum salary € 4027 gross per month,
plus 8% holiday allowance.
