Position: Executive Director – Scholar Rescue Fund

IIE, an independent non-profit organization founded in 1919, is a world
leader in the exchange of people and ideas. The Institute administers over
200 programs serving more than 20,000 individuals each year. Visit
www.iie.org {http://www.iie.org} to learn more about IIE. Launched in
2002, the Scholar Rescue Fund provides fellowships to scholars threatened
in their home countries. This important new program provides support and
safe haven to scholars around the world who are threatened as a result of
their academic work. Since its inception, the Scholar Rescue Fund has
rescued over 100 scholars from 35 different countries since 2002, enabling
them to continue their teaching and research and, essentially, saving
their academic work. This effort returns IIE to its work in the 1930s when
IIE’s Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced Foreign Scholars helped more
than 330 scholars fleeing persecution in Europe.

The Fund’s Executive Director will provide overall administration,
leadership and strategic vision for the Scholar Rescue Fund, reporting to
IIE President and SRF Committee of the Board of Trustees, SRF Executive

foundations and US Dept. of State) and programmatic partners in academic,
legal, human rights, refugee, diplomatic and other communities; manage all
aspects of SRF grant-making from outreach to post-placement, and assist
the Development Division in building support and endowment for SRF.

The Executive Director will design and implement program policies and
procedures; create suitable administrative structures; develop, monitor,
evaluate and modify program components and coordinate activities of the
SRF Selection Committee and with the SRF Committee of Board of Trustees
and SRF Board. He/she will oversee all aspects of case work carried out by
staff; provide instruction and guidance; monitor and anticipate potential
conflicts or problems; supervise program staff, including Assistant
Director, Program Officer, interns and volunteers; plan, prepare, and
monitor divisional administrative and program budgets and manage the
training of new staff, interns and volunteers.
