Dear colleagues around the globe,
I am following the debate on HRE with great interest. As a practitioner I
would like to express my support to the idea Abraham expressed in his last
reply. I also share the view that HRE really has great political power
within and it should become more than just classroom practice, projects
and workshops. It might sound cynical, but this is what HRE mostly is on
grassroots level. Sometimes it looks that also on the international level
HRE is only words, despite all instruments, funding, meetings and declared
priorities.
I think it is about time for HRE to become a little bit more than just
visions and dreams of individuals that are living it with their own
examples within societies. We all know what is going on around us and I am
pretty sure that we all are also aware that neoliberalistic globalisation,
based on money and power for a few chosen ones, is not leading us towards
world peace. Despite all nice words about human rights the everyday
practice is speaking a different language.
Thus I support the vision of HRE as a network with political power,
although I am at the same time aware what risks this brings along. I also
do not expect that this idea will be strongly supported at the moment, as
for many it is far more comfortable to "keep" HRE safely on educational
level, not to mention the structures of power that are more than happy
with the fact HRE is (still) not producing any threatening effects, like
for example active thinking citizens that would demand real democracy. At
least not in numbers that would be nearing the critical mass. Or just not
well organised?
