1. SEEKING COOPERATION IN CIVIC EDUCATION TO CONTRIBUTE TO PEACE AND
DEMOCRACY IN LIBERIA

Dear colleagues:

The National Youth Movement for Transparent Elections (NAYMOTE), a group
of young Liberian university graduates, students leaders, and
professionals, seeks to contribute to building peace and democracy in war
ravaged Liberia through civic education, encouraging more civic and
political participation of youth and women; voter education for upcoming
2005 elections; training sessions for youth and women to enable them
educate more voters; advocacy for constitutional and electoral reform; and
networking with other pro-democracy and human rights groups. The Movement
also provides a forum for discussions on many national policy issues
related to governance, the role of youth and women in Liberia's
democratization process. NAYMOTE has developed keen interest in your
institutions activities and support to the spread of democracy worldwide.

Since 2001, NAYMOTE has implemented projects geared at raising
consciousness of Liberians and educating them on democratic principles and
processes, through training workshops, advocacy, outreach, sensitization
activities, and capacity building.

Our interventions have primarily focused on youth (including
ex-combatants) students, and women, and our approaches have always
involved active participation of local people and community leaders in the
planning and implementation stages.

NAYMOTE's Legal status:

The National Youth Movement for Transparent Elections (NAYMOTE) was
established in December 2001 and received accreditation for the Ministry
of Planning and Economic Affairs Republic of Liberia and the National
Election Commission (NEC) got incorporated in 2002 by the Ministry of

2. LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS IN INTERNATIONAL E-MAIL PEN PAL PROGRAM FOR A
SUMMER CAMP

Dear Colleagues,

I am interested in setting up an international e-mail pen pal program for
a summer camp. The Children's Aid Society, East Harlem Summer Camp in New
York, USA has an international human rights theme where each age group
learns about a different country during the summer (July-August). This
summer the 5 year olds have China, 6 year olds have New Zealand, the 7
year olds have Rwanda, the 8 year olds have Argentina, the 9 year olds
have Egypt, the 10 year olds have Ukraine, and the 11 & 12 year olds have
Costa Rica. It would be on a relatively small scale with about 16-20
children in each group.

It would be great if each child could have a buddy to e-mail once or twice
a week in the corresponding country, who is similar in age, to learn from
a peer about what it is like to live in that country and what human rights
issues exist. There is also a possibility it could be continued
throughout the school year.

Please e-mail me if you are connected with a program, school, or camp in
one of these countries and interested in teaming up for this program, or
if you have any suggestions or contacts to assist me in this endeavour.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Rorri Geller
