Call for Applications - Roma Diplomacy Programme http://www.diplomacy.edu/roma The European Roma Information Office and DiploFoundation invite applications for the upcoming Roma Diplomacy programme, starting in July 2005. This is a year long educational programme for professionals from Eastern European countries working in the field of Roma and human rights, run through a combination of workshops and online learning. Through skills training, study of diplomacy and human rights advocacy related topics, and individual and collaborative research, the programme aims to: * to create a strong group of Roma "public diplomats" with the ability to bridge the gap between the Roma civil society and governments/EU institutions; * to create and build on existing Roma rights networks, so that activists can use diplomatic channels for fast appropriate response to challenges facing Roma; * to facilitate the sharing of research and experience of Roma and human rights activists with a focus on diplomacy, through ICT tools and a collaborative online platform; * to build practical capacity among Roma rights activists through participation in conferences and internships in EU institutions, international organisations and non-governmental organizations. Practical Information Application Deadline: June 15, 2005 First Workshop (Bucharest): July 9 - 17, 2005 Online Learning: August 2005 - April 2006 Participants must: * be currently working in the Roma rights field or in diplomacy or human rights, with a focus on Roma * hold an undergraduate university degree or have at least three years relevant work experience * have sufficient command of English for postgraduate level study a.. have unrestricted access to the Internet with Internet Explorer 6.00 or higher, from a computer running a Microsoft Windows operating system (please contact us for more details if you are in doubt about your level of access) b.. be prepared to commit to attending the 10 day workshop in Bucharest in July 2005 and at least 7 hours per week to online studies between August 2005 and April 2006 Full funding (tuition, travel and accommodation for workshops) is available for 20 - 25 participants. Preference for funding will be given to Roma applicants in the 25 - 35 year age group, to female applicants, and to applicants from Eastern Europe.
