on Human Rights and Peace Teaching
The International Training Centre on Human Rights and Peace Teaching -
CIFEDHOP - was created in 1984 by the World Association for the School as
an Instrument of Peace (EIP), an international non-governmental
organisation with consultative status to the United Nations, UNESCO,
Council of Europe and the African Commission on Human and Peoples rights.
CIFEDHOP is an international foundation with its headquarters and
secretariat in Geneva.
The overall objective of CIFEDHOP is to train teachers from primary,
secondary and vocational schools and teacher training colleges in human
rights and peace education (both formal and informal education).
The Centre's activities include :
* organisation of a one-week international session in Geneva each July, in
French and English, under the direction of an international teaching team
of educators and researchers specialised in human rights and peace education.
* organisation of regional and national training sessions in Africa, North
America, Eastern, Central and Western Europe and for the Arab world;
* distribution of information and documentation on the teaching of human
rights and peace throughout the world;
* publication of a "Thematic" collection on issues of international
dimension concerning human rights;
* encouragement and support of research, study and preparation of
educational materials at local, national, regional and international levels;
* help to teachers who want to develop human rights education in their country.
SESSION OVERVIEW
The session on human rights education will be held from Monday, 4 July, to
Saturday 9 July 2005. The working languages will be French and English.
Simultaneous translation is assured with the exception of the working
groups in both linguistic sections. There will be some fifty participants.
PARTICIPANTS
This session is designed for teachers, trainers and researchers who have
developed activities, innovative projects in human rights education.
OBJECTIVES
The goals of this session are:
* to delve further into the issues relating to human rights;
* to present and exchange experiences, methodologies, pedagogical
approaches, means of implementation and evaluation;
* to reinforce the networking amongst teachers and NGO representatives on
human rights education.

* Round table discussions and debates
* Workshops
* Case studies to encourage exchange of information and experience
* Presentation of pedagogical materials
* evaluation of methods and materials.

ENROLMENT AND SEMINAR INFORMATION
The working languages for the session are English and French. Simultaneous
translation is assured with the exception of working groups which remain in
both linguistic sections.
Registration fees *
Registration fee : 300.-- Swiss Francs
Documentation fee : 200.-- Swiss Francs
Location
LE CENACLE, Promenade Charles Martin, 1208 Geneve
Accommodation and meals *
Accommodation for the entire week costs 1'300.-- Swiss Francs, including
lodging in a double or single room, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, from
the evening of Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July 2005.
Arrival
If you advise us of your arrival date and time, we will pick you up at the
airport and bring you to the "Cenacle".
Insurance
Please take the necessary steps to ensure that your own insurance covers
illness or accident while in Geneva, as CIFEDHOP is not able to cover any
such cases.
Certificate of Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be given to participants who attend all
lectures and who take an active part in the working groups.
* To be paid upon arrival. Payment may be made by cash or cheque; credit
cards are not accepted.
Financial Aid
Financial grants covering the costs of travel, registration and
documentation fees, housing and meals are available for participants from
Africa, South America, Asia, Eastern and Central Europe.
Requests for financial aid should be addressed to the Director of CIFEDHOP,
accompanied by a completed application form as well as the Experience
Sharing Questionnaire and must be received no later than April 30, 2005.
As the number of grants available is limited, priority will be given to
those who can fully or partially finance their own travel expenses.
For the distribution of grants, the Financial Aid Committee will take into
account candidates' experience of the theme of the session, methodologies
and teaching approaches developed, as well as the means of implementation
and evaluation that the candidate has formulated in his or her country.
No financial aid can be attributed upon arrival in Geneva. For participants
from North America and Western Europe, it is advised to contact your
Ministry of Education and/or organisations or foundations in your country
to request financial help. Please contact CIFEDHOP for advice or support.
