The EMCR is an interdisciplinary and international programme with graduate students coming from all over the world with various disciplinary backgrounds and field experiences in children's rights. The 2005-2006 cycle of this two-year programme starts on 14 February 2005; the deadline for applications is 15 October 2004. The Executive Master is designed for professionals who work with children's rights issues, including lawyers, psychologists, sociologists, judges, social workers, government officials, staff of non-governmental organisations, academics and journalists. The programme takes place over a two-year period and requires participants to be present 4 weeks per year, allowing participants to combine the work for this Executive Master with professional duties. The study programme is made up of different modes of teaching, including residential modules and distance-learning methods, such as compulsory reading, group work, setting up an individual training programme, practical training and preparing a research paper (master's thesis). Each module of the Executive Master considers a specific theme: (1) Children's rights in context, (2) International legal instruments on children's rights, (3) The general principles of the CRC, (4) Child labour, (5) Armed conflict, trafficking and sexual exploitation, (6) Juvenile justice, (7) Child protection and (8) Implementation and monitoring strategies. The mandatory modules take place in Switzerland, alternately at the University of Fribourg and at IUKB in Sion/Bramois. The tuition fee amounts to 6'500 Euros (approximately 10'150 CHF / 7'700 USD), which does not include travel and living expenses.
