Re: National benchmarks for measuring and evaluating progress

Dear friends and colleagues,

Let me congratulate Kevin and Felisa for their thoughts related to
research and evaluation in the field. The idea to set up a section on the
website of HREA for studies is great. I have been claiming many years that
we have to support our work with research and evaluation, quantitative and
qualitative research. The question that I ask is if we educators in human
rights or activists in NGO are prepared to run such research. It might
well be that we need to find ways of how to prepare ourselves to do this
kind of studies. We should involve the universities much more.

Speaking about research and evaluation in HRE, I want to share with all of
you the following information:

The HRE UNESCO Chair that I am coordinating at the Universidad de la
Academia Humanismo Cristiano in Santiago de Chile is organizing a
conference on Accountability and Evaluation in Human Rights Education on 8
and 9 November 2004. Everybody is invited. This will be a good opportunity
to discuss and make plans for future research on HRE and to know each the
other. November is Spring time in Chile and as part of the program we will
be visiting Pablo Neruda's house in Isla Negra. Contact me at:

With love

Abraham
