Resources and tools necessary to support actors involved in HRE

Dear Colleagues,

Last week we discussed strategies for introducing HRE into primary and
secondary schools. Within the next days you will receive a summary message
with the highlights of that dialogue. This week (21-27 June) we propose to
concentrate on resources and tools that are required to introduce and
sustain HRE in primary and secondary schools (and, of course, in informal
education with youth).

Different kinds of supports are needed for initiating, piloting and
scaling up and strengthening national human rights education initiatives.
What tools and resources (e.g. materials, money, volunteers, etc.) are
necessary for supporting governmental, non-governmental and
inter-governmental actors in their efforts? How can these be developed or
shared in the most cost-efficient way possible?

Please be specific and mention examples from your country or region, if
possible. Also, please indicate any realistic "benchmarks" of resources
needed for the first three years of the World Programme (2005-2007).

We hope you will share your insights and experiences, which will
contribute to the development of a Plan of Action for the World Programme
for Human Rights Education. We also encourage you to continue to send
messages about the first topic of this Global Consultation, strategies for
introducing HRE into primary and secondary school at the national level.

Warm regards,

the Moderators,

Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies
