Colleagues may be interested in a new course on the International Criminal Court that commences in London on April 19. Bernie. ----------- THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT AND ITS ANTECEDENTS Almost as soon as the Red Cross was founded, it was recognised that international humanitarian standards would require an international court to enforce them. Initiatives at the League of Nations, Nuremberg and the UN Security Council paved the way for the world's first international criminal court, which was inaugurated in March 2003. This course examines the development of the court, the crimes it considers, its powers and its ability to punish criminals and order reparations. The course is based on lectures and seminars and will interest those with a background in human rights, international studies or law who are prepared to study legal texts outside class and discuss them in class. Lecturer: Bernard F. Hamilton, MA, LLM Fee: £58 (concessionary fee £29) An accredited course of 10 weekly meetings commencing Monday April 19, 2004 6:30 – 8:30 PM To enrol and for further information: Please contact either Joanna King, telephone 020 7631 6626 email j.king@fce.bbk.ac.uk or Linda McInerney telephone 020 7631 6618 email l.mcinerney@bbk.ac.uk ======== Global Human Rights Education listserv ======== Send mail intended for the list to <hr-education@hrea.org>.
