[hr-education] Thank you!

Dear friends,

I am sending this in an impersonal way to thank the many of you who have
taken the time to congratulate me. Please forgive me for acknowledging
your kind words this way hoping that in the future we will have the
occasion to dialogue in a more personal way.

I am writing this with much enthusiasm and hope. Having received the UN
Human Rights award -- the picture can be seen on our website www.pdhre.org
-- it is humbling to know that I am the fifth American to receive it and
the four before me are real giants on whose foot steps I walk. These are
Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther Kong, James Grant and Jimmy Carter.

Recognizing human rights education and learning to have "democracy become
a delivery system of human rights" as was said in the citation --gives me
-and could give us all- a tremendous sense of responsibility and added
commitment. I believe our work must lead to developing consciousness about
human rights in the lives of all women, men, youth and children. Which in
turn will lead to action..-- joining in changing the world to be a better
place for all within a human rights framework.

All of us, in one form or another, devoting our lives to Human Rights
education and learning need to constantly re evaluate our work and see if
indeed it is transformative leading to action guided by the human rights
framework -- as we have no other option but human rights.

Let this be a moment of sharing our wishes and expectations for another
year as we take yet another journey on the search of the real mending of
human rights to people's lives and most important learn how to share it
with others.
