[hr-education] HRE manual COMPASS on-line

Dear friends,

We are pleased to announce that COMPASS, a manual on human rights
education with young people, is now available on-line at
http://www.coe.int/compass

COMPASS has been produced by the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the
Council of Europe to provide youth leaders, teachers, trainers and
facilitators in the formal and non-formal education sectors with hands-on
and ready to use interactive methods and background information in human
rights and human rights education. COMPASS is central to the Human Rights
Education Youth Programme, implemented by the Directorate of Youth and
Sport to bring human rights education into the mainstream of youth work
practice (http://www.coe.int/hre).

The on-line version of COMPASS is based on full interactivity between
different sections of the manual as well as interactivity with the users.
The readers of COMPASS on-line can send their evaluations of the
activities, but also suggest new links, tips for other users, etc.  The
site is currently only in English, but it is expected that the French and
Russian versions of Compass will be linked to it in 2004.

The printed version of COMPASS is still available in English, French and
Russian at the Council of Europe Publishing (http://www.book.coe.int). The
success and usefulness of the manual is in bringing human right education
closer to the national and local levels is proven be the number of
translations being prepared. National partners of the Council of Europe
are active in translating it in Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Dutch,
Georgian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Macedonian, Polish, Romanian,
Slovenian and Spanish. The Council of Europe will also soon publish an
Arabic version.
