EDITOR

The Palestinian Human Rights Organization - PHRO, a Beirut-based NGO
working to enhance the legal rights of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, is
accepting applications for a paid internship post of an editor.

The applicant should possess:

*        English as a native Language
*        Average work experience in Journalism (as an editor, writer,
reporter, freelance&)
*        Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Publisher&)
*        Knowledge of the Palestinian issue (preferably through previous
jobs or volunteer work)
*        Previous experience in research (literature review and reporting)
*        Background in Human Rights (as through a job or earlier volunteer
work)

Desirable pluses:

*        A degree in journalism
*        Previous published articles on the Palestinian issue
*        Basic knowledge of Arabic
*        Experience in photography

The applicant is expected to:

*        Conduct various editing and writing tasks
*        Research for lengthy reports
*        Participate in writing, editing and designing a human rights
newsletter
*        Accept some administrative tasks

Additional conditions:

*        Has no reservation against working within Palestinian refugee
community in Lebanon (including camps)
*        Willing to commit for a period of at least 6 months. Candidates
applying for a 12 months period will have a better stance.
*        Able to commence his/her tasks by January 2004 or early in
February the latest

The accepted applicant will be offered:

*        Assistance in accommodation
*        An intern's salary
*        Chance to seek another part-time job
*       One ten-day leave per quarter.
*        A reasonable chance for promotion and career advancement

Application procedure:

*        Applicants should forward an e-mail titled Internshipin which
the applicant expresses his/her interest and mentions the source from where
he/she knew about the internship. The duration of internship and its
preferred starting date should be clearly indicated.

*        Attaching to this e-mail a cover letter (one page) and a recent
copy of a C.V. (not exceeding 3 pages). No other application material is
required.

*        The C.V. should include reference contacts. Information on
experience related to Palestinian issue/refugees/previous work in
Lebanon/human rights should be detailed.

*        Deadline for applying: December 15th 8:00 AM GMT. Documents
submitted beyond that date may not be recognized.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Palestinian Human Rights Organization - PHRO, a Beirut-based NGO

The applicant should possess:

*        English as a native Language
*        Managerial and administrative skills
*        Experience in NGO work in terms of strategic planning, identifying
and designing new initiatives
*        Capability to prepare and write proposals
*        Acquaintance with project assessment and reporting
*        Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Publisher&)

Desirable pluses:

*        Writing, editing and research capability
*        Background in Human Rights
*        Knowledge of the Palestinian issue (preferably through previous
jobs or volunteer work)
*        Basic knowledge of Arabic

Additional conditions:

*        Willing to commit for a period of at least one year.
