1. SEEKING INFORMATION ABOUT INDIA'S UN POSITIONS ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Dear List members,

My name is Talita Capella, I'm brasilian and I study International
Relations at Sao Paulo University. In July, I will be in Brasilia,
with some other USP IR students,
representing India at the America's Model of United Nations, organized
by the University of Brasilia's International Relations Institute. This
model is a simulation of the United Nations, where each participant
represents a country on an UN committee, like the Security Council and
the Legal Committee.

At this time, we are studying in order to be able to take a good
part at the discussions which will be held. And we have found it very
difficult to find sources to our preparation. I will be the one
representing India at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and
it would be very useful to me any kind of information you can give about
India's position and internal affairs related to Prevention and
Punishment on the Crime of Genocide, the The Impacts of Structural
Adjustment Programmes on the Realization of Economic, Social and
Cultural Rights, and Vienna + 10 (The tenth year of the Vienna
Conference).

I would appreciate any kind of information you can provide me!

Thank you very much,

Talita Capella

2. LOOKING FOR SPONSORSHIP FOR TRAINING/STUDY ABROAD

Dear Colleagues!

I am working in the Regional Directorate of Human Rights, Ministry of
Law, Justice and Human Rights, Government of Pakistan in the North
West Frontier Province as Public Relations Officer. I feel that much
is needed to be done for creating awareness amongst the government
agencies and masses about human rights, especially the child rights
and women rights. However, my own knowledge, I strongly feel is not
up to the mark and need to be enhanced and updated to a level, where
I could be better placed to argue with the strong state organizations
and in a more appealing way to the common masses. I have not received
any formal training in human rights, though I work closely with
Police and jail staff and now with District Officers and elected
representatives at the district levels.

I request all friends/organizations to please sponsor my visit to
other countries for updating my knowledge. Sponsoring formal
training/study in human rights would be greatly helpful and
appreciated.

3. COLLECTING INFORMATION ABOUT ARTICLE 18 EDUCATION INITIATIVES

Dear all members:

The Geneva based Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief which belongs
to the Conference of UN NGOs (CONGO) would like to circulate among its
members information about human rights education which promotes
understanding of Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Art.18 "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and
religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and
freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private
to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and
observance."

The committee is particularly concerned about the follow up of the UN
International Consultative Conference on School Education in Relation with
Freedom of Religion and Belief, Tolerance and Non-Discrimination, held in
Madrid in November 2001, by the initiative of the UN special rapporteur on
freedom of religion.

Any such information, including "models" of syllabi, could be sent to Dr
John Taylor, the secretary of the committee at echappee@bluewin.ch (the
address is different from that of the sender of this email you are reading).

Similarly, if any member of the Human Rights Education Associates would like
to receive information about the committee they are invited to contact the
secretary at the same address echappee@bluewin.ch

Thank you,

4. LOOKING FOR NGOS INVOLVED IN WOMEN's HUMAN RIGHTS LITIGATION

Dear friends and colleagues,

My name is Liudmila Mazur. I am writing to you on behalf of the
Network of East-West Women (NEWW). NEWW was founded in 1991 as an
international communication and resource network supporting dialogue,
informational exchange, and activism among those concerned about the
status of women in CEE/NIS. NEWW s mission is to support the growth
of grassroots women's movements in CEE/NIS. More information about
NEWW and NEWW-Poland is available in website: www.neww.org
<http://www.neww.org> and www.neww.org.pl <http://www.neww.org.pl>.

NEWW plans to establish pilot project CEE/NIS Women's Rights
Training Institute next year. This project is funded by the Open
Society Institute in Budapest. The objectives of the Project are to
develop regional and county level litigation strategies on women s
right in CEE/NIS, equip lawyers with necessary knowledge and
practical skills to litigate women's rights cases at the European
Court of Human Rights, and develop effective models of draft
legislation around priority issues with particular attention to
follow-up implementation.

Before launching the Institute, NEWW seeks to establish relationships
with the human rights litigation organizations already active in
CEE/NIS in order to have a discussion with them aimed at linking our
efforts around the on-going strategic litigation efforts on various
human rights issues to the specific field of women s human rights
litigation.

I would be very grateful if you could provide me with information
about programs implemented by your organization in the field of women
s rights litigation in CEE/NIS region.

Yours sincerely,

Liudmila Mazur

5. SEEKING PARTNERS FOR ORGANIZING CONFERENCE ABOUT TRAFFICKING IN CHILDREN

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from Pusat Kajian dan Perlindungan Anak (PKPA)/ Center for
Study and Child Protection. We are pleased to introduce Center for
Study and Child Protection. Center for Study and child Protection is
an NGO founded on 21 October 1996 as a realization of our concern on
the implementation of the rights of women and children in Indonesia
in general and in North Sumatera in particular.

With the support from the Japan Foundation Asia Centre, Pusat Kajian
dan Perlindungan Anak (PKPA)/ Centre for Study and Child Protection
will organize Southeast Asia Conference on the Trafficking in
Children for Sexual Purposes in Medan, North Sumatera, in April 2004.
The Japan Foundation Asia Centre has agreed to provide small part of
the budget of the conference. Therefore, a donor meeting and fund
raising are needed to gain more support for the conference.

UNICEF Indonesia has also given a commitment to support the
conference, and other concerned International donors, like ECPAT
International, is also likely to provide supports for the conference.

We are now exploring the possibilities of establishing cooperation
with organizations for the implementation of the conference. We would
be very grateful if your organization would cooperate with us for the
conference, or if you would to refer us to other organizations known
to you that may be interested to cooperate with us.

I look forward to receiving your response and participation to
support this conference.

Best regards,

Ahmad Sofian
