International Course: Gender and Peace Studies (San José, 8-26 September 2003)

The Department for Gender and Peace Studies at the University for Peace is
pleased to announce the International Course "Gender and the Study of
Peace and Non-violent Transformation of Conflict" that will be taught from
September 8th to September 26th, 2003 at the University's main campus in
San Jose, Costa Rica.

This International Course has been designed to address the interaction
between Gender and the Non-Violent Transformation of Conflict when
discussing topics such as:

*        Introduction to fundamentals of gender studies
*        The promise of peace, the problems of war
*        Reasons for wars
*        Contemporary peace research and fields of conflict and resolution
*        Religion and conflict
*        United Nations, multilateral international organizations, and 
	non-conventional diplomacy
*        Overview of the history of non-violent struggle: theories and methods
*        Dynamics of non-violent struggle
*        Necessity for strategic planning, discipline, preparation, and 
	training in non-violent struggle
*        Importance of gender in the building of peace
*        Democratization and peace
*        Implications of the information and communications revolutions
