Interdisciplinary Children's Rights course (Ghent, 11-18 December 2003)

Dear colleagues,

At the Children's Rights Centre, University of Ghent, Belgium, we are
organising the International Interdisciplinary Course on Children' Rights
again this year.

Organised for the first time in 1996, the course took place during five
consecutive years (1996-2000). Since then it has been evaluated and this
year, thanks to renewed funding, we are running the course again (11-18th
of December 2003).

The course is a specialised course, dealing with the concept of children's
rights and is based on empirical, practical and academic knowledge
accumulated in this field. It provides extensive basic information and
in-depth knowledge on the origins, motives and legitimisation, strategies
and main trends in the field of children's rights. Evidently, the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and its implementation feature
largely in the programme.

The course consists of a mixture of lectures with time for discussion and
questions, workshops and a number of informal sessions, which enable
participants to organise their own discussion groups around specific topics
or individual projects.

The practical arrangements of the course are outlined below.

Yours sincerely,

Kathy Vlieghe and Arabella Weyts
