SEEKING MATERIALS FOR HRE IN MILITARY Dear listserv members, I am a Development Projects Manager working for the British Council. In Georgia we are trying to develop the training materials for military personnel covering various human rights issues. I would really appreciate your advise on relevant materials, publications, articles or modules on teaching human rights to military personnel. Thanks a lot in expectations. Kind regards, Kote Vardzelashvili E-mail: Kote.Vardzelashvili@ge.britishcouncil.org ---------- 2. Merci, Edouard André Gogan E-mail: goedouadre@yahoo.fr ---------- 3. REQUESTING HELP WITH HRE COURSE FOR ROMA Dear colleagues, I am trying to put together a course teaching diplomatic skills and human rights for the Roma representatives. I tried in many ways to get the attention of diplomats, donors and some "important" human rights activists on the subject. The only way it worked was by putting together a web site with diplomatic blunders in which I included some extremely racist "blunders" by politicians targeting Roma/travellers. The link to the site is <http://textus.diplomacy.edu/blunders/links/index.asp>. I know it can be considered trivial but it brought enough attention to get the support of the organization I work for to partially fund a conference on Human Rights and Diplomacy and the course I talked about. Before joining the Human Rights field I was a manager in the private sector and I think the aggressive way of creating willing customers for our "products" is the only way to get the needed mass-support for human rights education. For those of you interested by the course (I need as much help as I can get) and the Conference or Roma, please do not hesitate and contact me. Of course any comments on the blunders site are welcomed too. Thank you, Valeriu Nicolae E-mail: valeriunicolae2000@yahoo.com ---------- 4. LOOKING FOR INPUT FROM HRE PROFESSIONALS (NEPAL) Hi Members, This email comes from Nepal, where after the declaration of cease fire by His Majesty's Government and the rebel force called Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), the process of institutionalizing peace has started to take shape. When they declared a cease fire on 29 January, both sides said they were willing to hold talks to end seven years of bloody insurgency. The Maoist campaign for a communist republic to replace the existing democratic Nepal has claimed nearly 8,000 lives since 1996. As such the peace process has support from all the Nepalese people, and human rights organizations in the country have played a very positive role. The issue I put before you for your opinion is how the human rights educators can help the process. In this situation, we will be interested to know how the human rights people can help the peace process, and make efforts for effective implementation of human rights and humanitarian considerations in it. Your kind inputs will be shared with a big pool of human rights people in Nepal. It is important to create a situation that the dialogue has involvement of the nation as a whole, and that nobody is a loser.
