LOOKING FOR CONFLICT POST IN SIERRA LEONE, RWANDA, DRC, OR ANGOLA

I am an African woman, with an MA in communication psychology having
concluded my thesis on media and conflict. I am also trained in
transforming civil conflict, reporting on conflict and with five years
experience in Rwanda, and the Great Lakes region. I am currently working
at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and following the
justice process in Rwanda. Apart from my current post I have also worked
as a volunteer social worker in slum areas of Kenya, and also in a civil
rights and conflict resolution community education project there. I am
looking to broaden my experience and do not mind working in hard and
extreme conditions.

I can be contacted at internews2@habari.co.tz or kimanimary@yahoo.com

CALL FOR PAPERS - ASIA-PACIFIC JOURNAL ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE LAW 2002

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite contributions for the next 2002 issue of the
Asia-Pacific Journal on Human Rights and the Law. The Journal is in its
third year of publication.

For this next issue, the Journal invites analytical papers, theoretical as
well as empirical, which deal with the extremely diverse the human rights
situations and challenges in the region, as well as other submissions such
as country reports. It accepts texts submitted in major Asian languages.

The Asia-Pacific Journal on Human Rights and the Law is the world's only
law journal offering scholars a forum in which to present comparative,
international and national research dealing specifically with issues of
law and human rights in the Asia-Pacific region.

Please feel free to contact me for further information on the journal or
guidelines on submitting a paper. Information on subscription to the
journal may be obtained through Kluwer Law International's website at
http://www.wkap.nl/journalhome.htm/1388-1906

SEEKING ORIGINS FOR PHRASE "SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER"

Dear colleagues,

I'm a translator, and I need some help understanding a phrase I have just
come across. I wonder if you would be so kind as to help me. The phrase
is: "speaking truth to power." I understand it has become the motto of
many human rights organizations.

Could you, please, inform me what is the source of this expression, and
what is the exact meaning? As I understand, it means: to struggle on
behalf of the weak, to convey the message of the underprivileged (?).

Your reply would be much appreciated, and I thank you in advance for your
attention.

Best regards,

Ruti Assouline

LOOKING FOR MANUALS AND RESOURCES ABOUT TRAINING NGOs ON CHILDREN'S RIGHTS

The UNICEF Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe, Commonwealth of
Independent States and the Baltic States is compiling a list of manuals
and resources for training NGOs on children's rights. In addition to
overall training on the CRC, they would also be interested in training on
specific areas of rights, as well as advocacy strategies for these rights.

They would be grateful if organisations or individuals would send them
information about relevant materials and where they can be obtained.
Kindly indicate the themes covered, target audiences, language(s), and
format. It would be appreciated if electronic copies could be forwarded
where they exist, as well as web links to on-line materials.
