Dear Colleagues and Friends, The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law will organize a training programme on the equal status and human rights of women from 4-22 November 2002 in Lund, Sweden. The training programme focuses on human rights and gender issues, international standards of equality and policies aimed at enhancing gender equality and covers human rights protection of women in all pertinent areas. Particular attention is paid to the linkage of specific topics to international conferences, especially the 1995 UN Conference on Women in Beijing and the +5 follow-up. The programme is interdisciplinary and involves aspects of law, social sciences, as well as transdisciplinary areas of development and democratization. The programme is designed primarily for representatives from women's organizations, senior staff members of government agencies responsible for equality issues and researchers dealing with gender and related topics. Since elimination of gender discrimination necessitates education and training of both women and men, nominations of men working with equality issues are encouraged. Individuals from the following countries are invited to apply for the programme: Albania Armenia Azerbaijan Bosnia Herzegovina Croatia Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Georgia Kazakhstan Kyrgyz Republic Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Moldova Tajikistan Turkmenistan Uzbekistan Additional information on the training programme is available on the website of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (www.rwi.lu.se), where it is also possible to download application forms for the programme. Please note that, due to an editorial mistake, Croatia has been omitted among the countries listed in the application brochure that are invited to nominate participants. The programme is conducted in English and consequently a high proficiency of the English language is required of applicants. The programme is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Costs for international travels, accommodation and training materials in connection with the programme are borne by Sida. In addition, participants are given a subsistence allowance to cover daily expenses. The training itself and all practical matters in connection with the programme are administered by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. Closing date for applications is 15 August 2002. If have any questions concerning the programme, please do hesitate to contact Ms. Zophie Landahl (tel: +46 46 222 12 24, e-mail: zophie.landahl@rwi.lu.se) at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute.
