Freedom of Expression Handbook and on-line database

Dear colleagues,

I thought you might be interested to know that ARTICLE 19, the Global
Campaign for Free Expression, has recently finalised an upgrade of its
Virtual Freedom of Expression Handbook on http://www.article19.org,
developing it into a significant on-line resource for global freedom of
expression law.

The Handbook contains an on-line database with summaries of all freedom of
expression related cases from the UN Human Rights Committee and European
Court of Human Rights, plus all significant cases from the Inter-American
Commission and Court of Human Rights, the African Commission on Human and
Peoples' Rights as well as a large number of cases from various national
jurisdictions. Most case summaries include a link tot he full text of the
case. Finally, the Virtual Handbook contains a number of key-documents
providing in-depth legal analyses of some key topics.

All cases and key documents are divided into categories (Internet,
broadcasting, defamation, national security etc.), and there is a search
engine to allow easy access.

The Virtual Handbook is continuously updated and further developed. From time
to time, new cases are added. The Virtual Handbook strives to cover all
relevant cases from international jurisdictions as well as the most
important cases from national jurisdictions. Suggestions and contributions
are more than welcome.

Please have a look (the direct link is to
http://www.article19.org/Homepage.asp?AreaID=42&SubAreaID=107, but you can
also go to www.article19.org and click on the Virtual Freedom of Expression
Handbook link in the left-hand column), and if you think it's useful, tell
your colleagues! Please also feel free to forward this message to others you
think would be interested (but try to avoid turning it into a chain letter).
Any other feedback is also welcome: law@article19.org.

Thanks for your time,

With best wishes

Peter
