APPLICATION FOR SPONSORSHIP/SCHOLARSHIP FOR 23RD
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING PROGRAM

Dear list members,

My name is Samantha Khan and I work as a researcher for a human rights
organisation called the Community Law & Rural Development Centre (CLRDC)
in Durban, South Africa. The CLRDC is a non-profit, non-governmental
organisation that focuses on achieving a sustainable human rights culture
through its many training and education programmes. The training programmes
include the training of community-based paralegals as well as the local
traditional leadership. We work mainly with indigent rural communities who
have systematically been deprived of their basic human rights. I am
essentially involved in researching and producing material pertaining to
social, legal and human rights. I am also one of the CLRDC's trainers who
train on legal subjects and human rights. The four-month Diploma in
Paralegal Studies, with one years' practical certification, which we offer
to the paralegals, is accredited by the University of Natal, Durban campus.

The reason that I am writing is that I have been selected to attend the
23rd International Human Rights Training Program in Canada in June 2002.
Unfortunately, the Canadian Human Rights Foundation has limited funding for
applicants and thus I was not offered financial assistance. I am hereby
kindly requesting sponsors for my trip to the IHRTP from the 9-29 June
2002.

Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

Samantha Khan
